Rock climber, sportsman and motivational speaker Aron Ralston cut off his arm to save his own life. He was trapped under a boulder for five days and realized there was no other way out. At first he claimed he tried to chip away at the rock in order to free himself but that did not work. Once he had decided to remove his arm in order to be set free, he began cutting at the skin, but the cheap knife he used would not cut through the bone. He lay there two days before he worked out how to snap the bone from its socket. Today is he back to health and has earned millions from talking about his experience.

A French man aged 70 decided to remove his own pacemaker. Doctors ascertained later, when the man died from blood poisoning, that it was a suicide attempt.

4.Australian Fails To Remove A Metal Plate

A 27 year old Australian man decided to take an implant out of his ankle due to pain. Using a pocket knife as his instrument and booze as his anesthetic, he dug into his ankle trying to remove the offending metal implant. Half way through is DIY operation he realized that he could not remove one of the screws holding the implant in place. So, sewed himself up and headed to the hospital.

5.Woman Removes Teeth in Britain

A British woman in Scarborough England became increasingly frustrated at a lack of qualified dentists in her area. So, decided to take things into her own hands. She drank a lot of beer she claimed then proceeded to pull out seven teeth. Valerie Holsworth used her husbands pliers as implements.

A Hertfordshire man clipped off his own foreskin in 2009 in order to circumcise himself. Although not harmed permanently the man was hospitalized and warned never to try that again. He used regular nail clippers.

7.Beautiful Model Injects Cooking Oil Into her Face

In a bid to keep her youthful beauty this woman on the right, injected herself with cooking oil much like people are injected with fillers or botox. The result is seen on the left and is unfortunately irreversible. It's reported that Hang Mioku a pretty model was turned down by doctors as she was requesting more and more silicone be injected into her face. Mioku now, is disfigured for life.

8.A Mexican Woman Performs Her Own Caesarian

Due to being too far from a hospital and a lot of other mitigating circumstances, this Mexican woman decided to perform a caesarian on herself in order to give birth. Drinking hard liquor in a bid to quell the pain she sliced through her skin 17 inches along. After an hour or so once she had access to her womb she pulled her baby son out of herself. Hours later she received emergency help at hospital since she had damaged some of her intestines.

9.Chinese Woman Slices Stomach Open

A Chinese woman decided to slit open her stomach to remove the excess fluid that was caused by an illness she suffers from. She did not have the funds to go to hospital so used a regular kitchen knife to slice her stomach open in order to release the build up fluids. Once this was done she was rushed to hospital to receive free medical treatment in order to save her life. The rare illness causes bloating and uncomfortable fluid retention in the stomach area.

10.Successful Lump Removal

Dwain Williams performed a successful surgery on his forehead. He was plagued by a lump and even though it was not life threatening he felt it ruined his appearance. After pricing how much it would cost to have the offensive bump removed he decided that it was too expensive. So, he gathered together two friends and they assisted him with the removal of the benign lump. The operation was successful, but took ages to heal as reported by Williams later.

A Mexican women who was turned away from hospital due to lack of funds gave birth on the grass outside of the hospital. Lopez who walked with her husband to the hospital said it had taken an hour to get there, only to be turned away.
