1.Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
Whether Mormonism is a cult or not remains hotly in debate. However, Warren Jeff's who lead the arm of the Fundamentalist Church of Christ is now in prison for various crimes against the women and children in his congregation. The charges include sexual abuse and physical abuse of minors. For purposes of this comment it is important to draw a line between Mormonism as a whole and this particular branch or cult of Mormonism. Polygamy was also a bone of contention with US authorities when investigating the cult.
Many would argue that Hari Krishna is not a cult. If one exams their basic way of functioning it does appear to have cult like characteristics. They isolate you from normal society, they encourage you to cut off contact with friends and family and they also demand half of your pay-check and assets. They preach that money is bad but they seem happy enough to take yours.
2.Vampire Cults
Although not new Vampire associations have recently sprung up all over America. Their support includes web sites outlining where to join and meet other vampires, their mission and goals as well as to clear up misconceptions. Vampire cults believe that people who need to drink blood will suffer many physical symptoms if they do not. Including apathy, restlessness and a feeling of despair. Many organizations give members the ability to drink blood from regular donors. Although on their own the organizations seem harmless enough. However, many commit crimes in the name of vampirism.
3.The Klu Klux Klan
The KKK as they were better known reached a peak 4 Million members in 1928. Their basic belief was fundamental Christianity and a hatred of black people. During their reign on terror they murdered countless people. This groups posture on white supremacy not only angered black people in American but also Jews and Catholics.
4.The Children Of God - David Berg
Founded by Berg in the 1960 the members were predominantly anti-establishment and hippy's. Berg taught sexual experimentation within the cult and this included families and children. The women in the cult were sent out 'flirty fishing' which meant that they would wear seductive clothing and attitudes in order to bring in new members. After the members become proliferated with sexually transmitted diseases they curbed their sexual activity. This is one cult that is still active today despite David Bergs death.
5.The Peoples Temple - Jim Jones
Jim Jones was a preacher in the Pentecostal fashion. A charismatic and enchanting man he seemed to be on fire for the Lord. His preaching was so effective he also gained massive follows all over the world, but was specially enjoyed by African Americans. Jones Town was formed and members lived there happily. When it was made known to Jones that his life was about to be exposed he ordered his congregation to commit suicide. In 1978 congressman Leo Ryan flew down to find out more about the organization and was murdered. The same day 900 members committed suicide.
6.The Davidians - David Koresh
Although many think that David Koresh founded the Davidians he was in fact a successor to the person who did who was Lois Roden. Koresh and Roden met after he had been asked to leave a regular Christian church. The two had an affair and Roden named Koresh as the new leader. Part of the doctrine included that Koresh had access to all the women in the cult as well as the children for sexual pleasure. The cult ended in 1993 after a shoot-out with federal agents in Waco Texas which rendered 80 members dead. Koresh also died.
7.Heavens Gate - Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles
These two individuals came together in 1970 and both believed they were mentioned in the Bible as the two witnesses that were chosen to give the message to the people. They believed primarily in Christianity and UFOs. They told followers that spaceships were ready to take them and on March 1997, 39 members were found dead from suicide as they believed this formed part of their transition to heaven.

8.The Church of Scientology - Ron L Hubbard
Since its inception in 1952 with the onset of Dianetics the Church of Scientology has received bad press. It has been said that they exploit their members for financial gain. Many former members have testified against the organization but later withdrew their testimonials saying they did it for the settlements. High profile people belong to the group which is known as a cult including Tom Cruise.
9.Raelian Church - Claude Vorilhon
The Raelian Church focuses mainly on the belief in UFOs and that in fact there is no God or spiritual entity. Instead there is only the mind and matter. They claim that all American women are cloned as a Government plot and that most people can be cloned along with personality and habits. Vorilhon also teaches free love and sexuality. The church has over 65 000 members.

10.Charles Manson - The Manson Family
Born in 1937 Charles Manson started out life as an unwanted child to a teenage mother. By the late 1960s he had been institutionalized for most of his life. He started a family during the hippy area upon which he held a strong hold on. All women, he told them that The Beatles songs were their guide and that these songs were telling them to murder. They were incarcerated for the murder of Sharon Tate and her friends and remained so until today.
11.Stewart Traill - The Forever Family Allentown Pennsylvania.
Stewart Traill a former atheist and vacuum repair technician started his cult in 1971. He targeted mainly young teens and ruled their lives by public humiliation and public shaming. He caused so much psychological damage to his followers he falls within the top ten worse cult leaders.
