1.They invented bungee jumping
If you have ever tried bungee jumping and hated every second of it, then you have New Zealand to thank for that. It was created as a thrill sport and they threw themselves off a bridge over a river and a new craze was born.
2.Plastic surgery was created there
The guy that basically invented plastic surgery was born in New Zealand. He came up with the idea in World War 1 in order to help people that were injured fighting and he had no idea that it would turn into what it has done now.
3.Lots of rain
In one year, a part of the South Island saw an amazing 60 feet of rain. That is a world record and can you imagine living there and having to put up with that for a full year? It would drive you absolutely insane.
4.Biggest eruption in the world
New Zealand is home to what is believed to have been the biggest volcanic eruption to have ever taken place in the last 70,000 years. It happened at Lake Taupo and over 520 cubic kilometers of magma was released with this being an absolutely huge amount.
5.You can drive before having sex
The age of consent for sex in New Zealand is 16, but you can learn how to drive a car when you are only 15. How come you can do it in that order? It just seems a bit strange to be able to kill yourself driving a vehicle, but you are unable to have sex?
6.Brothels are legal
New Zealand has actually made it legal for a brothel to operate and it is just part of them having quite a liberal attitude to so much about life. They felt that it was wrong to make it a criminal offence, so at least this way it can be controlled to a certain extent.
7.They love sheep
Sheep are everywhere in New Zealand and in actual fact they outnumber humans by around 9 to 1. That is why they are pretty dominant in the international sheep market.

8.Women are powerful
New Zealand loves things to be equal and they were actually the first country to have women in all three senior positions at the same time. This meant that the Prime Minister, The Chief of Justice, and the Governor General were all female.
9.It has two national anthems
New Zealand has two national anthems with one being God save the Queen and the other God Defend New Zealand. It is one of only three countries in the world that have this with the others being Denmark and Canada.

10.The Maoris killed them
New Zealand was first found in 1642 by the Dutch, but it was then basically left alone again until 1769 when it was mapped by James Cook. The Dutch actually fled because a number of the crew were killed by the Maoris that were living there.
11.Equal voting rights
New Zealand was so far ahead of other countries when it came to equal voting right as it was made law in 1893. This was years ahead of anybody else and of course happened when it was still part of Australia, but it still counts.
