Edinburgh Castle sits on the volcanic Castle Rock in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is a landmark in the Edinburgh skyline, and is cared for by Historic Scotland. A big tourist attraction, it receives 1.2 million or more visitors per year. It has been sitting on the rock since at least the 12th century.
