1.BMW

Once an aircraft manufacturing firm in 1917, the company moved into motorcycle production after World War I. Without the need for their aircraft services, they focused on using their craft to build the finest of engines. By 1928 they were manufacturing automobiles, with their first car made public, being the Dixi.

2.Chevy

The Chevrolet is part of General Motors Corp, founded by Swiss race car driver Louis Chevrolet. From subcompact cars to medium duty commercial trucks, Chevrolet is as American as apple pie. One of its most highly acclaimed vehicles, the Corvette, was released to the pubic in 1953, a two seater sports car, that to this day, is highly sought after by sports car enthusiasts.

3.Toyota

In 2012, Toyota was the largest automaker in the world, with 200 million vehicles produced. Headquartered in Toyota, Aichi, Japan, the company was founded by Kilchiro Toyoda in 1937. The first passenger car was the Toyota AA, and a competition was held to create a new logo, based on speed.

4.Ford

One of the oldest, and most well known, motor companies in the entire world, Ford Motor Company opened it's doors in 1903. Henry Ford founded and incorporated the company in Dearborn, Michigan, selling most of its cars under the Ford brand, and using their Lincoln brand for their luxury vehicles.

5.Honda

The Japanese company, Honda Motor Company, is known for its motorcycles and vehicles in the United States, and worldwide. Having been the largest manufacturer of motorcycles since 1959, the company produces more than fourteen million motorcycles per year. Honda is the eight largest automobile manufacturer in the world, behind General Motors and Volkswagen.

6.Nissan

Nissan Motor Company, headquartered in Nishi-ku, Yokohama, Japan, produces a range of luxury vehicles named Inifiniti. It's headquarters was named sixth largest automaker in the world, in 2011, just behind Toyota, Volkswagen, Ford and Hyundai. Revitalizing an old brand from 1914, the company relaunched Datsun in July 2013. The Nissan name was not used until the 1930's.

7.Audi

The German Audi is headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria Germany, with nine production facilities around the world. The name Audi comes from founder August Horch, with Horch meaning listen. When translated to latin, it means audi. This company is part of the Big 3 luxury automakers, which also includes BMW and Mercedes Benz.

8.Mercedes-Benz

Founded in 1965, Mercedes Benz was created in 1952 when Max Hoffman created the 300SL Gullwing. At first distributing their cars in the United States through Studebaker Packard Corporation in 1957, eight years later the Mercedes Benz USA company was formed. Today the company employs over 1500 people, with 356 associated dealerships employing over 21,500 people.

9.Hyundai

Hyundai is one of the top car manufacturers, originating in 1967. Headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, it produces more than 1.6 million vehicles per year. The name is means modernity in Korea. With sleek designs, their vehicles are typically the forerunners in design each year, along with their sister company, Kia.

10.Jeep

Jeep is part of the Chrysler Group, having been bought in 1987 from American Motors. The sport utility and off road vehicles, was first marketed to civilians in 1945. It is believed it got its name in the military when it was used for Government or General Purpose (GP). Said over and over again, GP became Jeep.

11.Kia

The second largest automobile manufacturer, Kia Motors Corporation is headquartered in Seoul, Korea. Its name means Ki - to come out and a - for Asia, giving the word the meaning "to come out of Asia." Kia Motors was founded in 1944, making it the oldest motor vehicle manufacturer. Today, they offer their vehicles through over 755 dealers in the United States.

12.Suzuki

Headquartered in Minami-ku, Suzuki Motor Corporation is on of the top car manufacturers in 2013. Manufacturing everything from four wheel drive vehicles to motorcycles, to all terrain vehicles, their reach overs twenty three countries on their own and 192 countries through their 133 distributors. Suzuki is the second largest small car and truck manufacturer.
