Disney princesses name sound cool and interesting. Like their faces, their names are cute too. Some of the Disney princesses’ names sound familiar. Some names sound like they don’t even belong to this planet! Disney picks its princess character names from different languages. Here are 15 Disney princesses names and their meanings

1.Cinderella

Let’s begin this with none other than Cinderella, one of the cutest Disney princesses of all time. Cinderella name sounds cool, and also interesting. Cinderella is a French word. The word Cinderella means ‘of the ashes’.

Disney doesn’t pick random names for its princess characters. The names will have some sort of connection to the character, plot or the movie. Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty movie has got a Latin name. Aurora in Latin means dawn.

3.Ariel

Princess Ariel from The Little Mermaid movie got her name from Hebrew language. In Hebrew, Ariel means ‘Lion of God’, which is the name of an archaic angel. In Hebrew language, Ariel is other name of Jerusalem. This name is very popular in Israel, and it was mentioned a few times in Hebrew Bible

This is so far the most interesting Disney princess name. The name Pocahontas belongs to a Native American language. In Algonquian language, Pocahontas means ‘she is playful’. Pocahontas was a nick name. Her actual name is Matoaka.

Esmeralda is a Spanish name. It means Emerald in English. Esmeralda is a Disney princess character from its popular movie ‘The Hunchback of Notre-Dame’.   Emerald is a green colored precious stone. Disney chose this name because Esmeralda have striking green colored eyes.

8.Megara

Megara from Hercules movie got her name from Greek language. In Greek, Megara means fury. Meg is a very interesting character. She is smart, knows what’s what, and got fabulous style. Her name makes sense because Hercules movie is based on Greek mythology.

Mulan is another Disney princess, who is unique and has got her own style. Mulan is a Chinese name, and it means ‘wood orchid’. This name perfectly suits her given her brave and bold role in the Mulan movie.

Jane is the most loved Disney character around the world because of her incredible beauty and playful nature. Jane in English as well Hebrew means ‘Gift from God’. Jane is also considered as feminine variant of name ‘John’.

This Disney character from the movie Enchanted has got her name from French language. In French, Giselle means pledge. She looks beautiful and gorgeous. Giselle is one of the most beautiful Disney characters ever.

Nancy is a Disney character from the movie Enchanted, which got its name from Hebrew language. In Hebrew, Nancy means grace. Despite marrying a Disney prince, Nancy isn’t fully treated as princess by Disney and the fans as well.

Merida is a Celtic name. The name means pearl. Princess Merida is the main character of the Disney Pixar film Brave. She is looks very different from other Disney princess in terms of her appearance. She looks very different with her wavy red hair. 

15.Nani

Nani Pelekai, is a Disney character from popular Lilo and Stitch franchise. She is the elder sister and also the legal guardian of Lilo. Nani is a Hawaiian word, and it means ‘beauty’. Considering her Hawaiian background, this name perfectly suits her.
