#3 Augusta Ada King, First Female Computer Programmer

Ada was born in 1815 to famous poet Lord Byron and showed a keen sense of mathematical ability. She often called herself a poetic mathematician. Seeing a similarity in the two sciences. A good friend and keen scholar, her friend Charles Babbage invited Ada to submit some notes she had written for a project he was working on 'The Analytical Engine'. The 'machine' was primarily designed to calculate numbers, but Ada added more ideas and notes to the project. Her notes contained what was then recognised as the first algorithm. She had designed it to fit in with Babbage's machine. Her notes were used in the first steps of computer programming and are still held in strong regard today.
