Some versions of the Honda Civic are very tempting to car thieves. They like the battery and the extra equipment in the EX model. Even though these are less expensive cars, they still tend to get stolen, for the very reason of their parts. Hardly anyone really steals are car to keep it and drive it.

5.Ford F-Series

The Ford F-Series pickup is an easy target. It was one of the best selling vehicles in 2011, putting over 584,917 on the road and in the view of thieves. Both the low end and high end pick ups are targets for their own reasons. With 26.770 stolen in 2012, we can see how easy these are to get into, especially the ones that are not chipped.

6.Chevrolet Silverado

With over 23,745 Chevrolet Silverado's stolen, it's easy to see that thieves are hot on this type of vehicle. They are popular for being sent overseas and sold to unsuspecting buyers, but the thieves have to deal with counterfeit paperwork to get the vehicle sent through to a port. It can be a hassle, but worth it for the money they get.

The Toyota Camry is another frequently stolen car. Thieves love these types of cars for their airbags. With 16,251 Camry's stolen in 2012, thats a lot of airbags for the thieves to sell. There are a lot of Camry's on the road, which makes it a perfect and easy target.

8.Dodge Caravan

You may think you're safe from theft with a Dodge Caravan. It's an unassuming vehicle, and most people don't think thieves would want it. That's a mistake everyone makes, but the thief isn't going to keep it and drive it. There's valuable parts that can be sold for a lot of money. In 2012, 11,799 Caravans were stolen.

Dodge Rams are at the top of the list of stolen cars with 11,755 stolen in 2012. Stolen mostly for parts, is hard to think of your car being chopped up like that, but it happens every day, all day. Some thieves scout out your car well ahead of time, and wait for the perfect moment to strike.

Having OnStar or LoJack as an option may have saved over 9,955 Acura Integras from being stolen. Without it there is no way to track the car. Integras are great for parts, and thieves find them to be easy entry. Sometimes they acquire keys through VIN cloning where they copy your VIN number, create a new one, and get plates for your car.

The Nissan Altima is more popular with thieves than the Maxima. The reason is the parts. The Maxima is a more upscale car than the Altima, but Altima has more parts that thieves want. With more than 9,000 thefts in 2012, the numbers speak volumes about which care is more appealing to a car thief.

12.Nissan Maxima

With almost 7,000 Nissan Maximas stolen in 2012 alone, they are at the top of the list of America's most stolen cars. This car is highly sought after, most likely for parts, or for the car itself. It depends on who steals it and what they do with it. Japanese midsize sedans are notoriously the most stolen.
